At 10:45 a.m. today, the Alabama Commission on Higher Education approved Jacksonville State University’s first doctoral degree, the Doctor of Science in Emergency Management.
Dr. William A. Meehan, university president, immediately responded by stating the approval was the “biggest change in the university’s role since we became a university in 1967.”
He added, “I appreciate the opportunity the Alabama Commission has given to provide this as a capstone for our emergency management program. It really helps spread the expertise of our faculty and staff in the emergency management program, and it will help our state meet critical needs in this field as a result of recent events such as the Gulf oil spill and Hurricane Katrina.”
The program will be offered beginning in Fall 2011.
